Electro-Magnetic Counter Measures (ECM) are any sort of electrical or electronic device designed entirely to make a ship harder to hit by enemies by disrupting the functions of sensor arrays and targeting systems. They may be used both offensively or defensively in any method to deny targeting information to an enemy. The system may make it seem that there are hundreds of separate targets, or make the real target seem to disappear or move about randomly.

Some high powered ECM disruptor circuits may even be capable of remotely detonating inbound missiles.

The ECM systems aboard spacecraft are typically operated by an ECO (Electronic Countermeasures Officer), if not under advanced automation.
