Slug thrower

A slug thrower is a kinetic projectile weapon, such a hand gun that fires bullets, as opposed to advanced energy weapons.

The term can refer to traditional firearms (using an explosive substance to propel shot, bullets, or shells at high velocities), compressed air guns, spring operated guns, and rail guns. In everyday use, slugthrowers are still used by private security, mercenary groups, and target practice.

Because slug throwers can be extremely dangerous in a space environment, their use is often controlled to on-planet use only. Domed biosphere colonies also have stiff penalties for possession and/or use of a slugthrower, although special rounds do exist for use in these types of settings.
