Gigerdi Alliance Colonial Defence Forces

The Gigerdi Alliance Military is the primary military force of the Gigerdian species, but not its only one.

Most of the GA colonies maintain their own forces in coordination with the GA Military, for local law enforcement and protection when regular GA Military units aren't available, and as a reserve that can be drawn upon by the GA Military should a large-scale conflict flare up. The GA Military coordinates closely with the Colonial Defence Forces on training and equipment, and though the quality of both can tend to lag a bit (sometimes especially with ships and general equipment), many GA Colonial Defence Force fleets and units are quite respectable in local terms.

The Colonial Defence Forces include both infantry (ground) and fleet assets, and are usually organized identically to the GA Military's unit organizations (though some ground units vary in training and organization to better fit their planetary situations).

Most of the Colonial Defence Force fleets are compromised of older GA Military Craft: heavy, modern capital ships are rarely seen in the hands of the GACDF, instead small to medium vessels act as the main arsenal. However, what the colonials lack in numbers, training, and equipment, they make up in one key element: they know their turf better than anybody else. Colonial planetary units are invariably well equipped and prepared for, and knowledgeable about, the unique enviroments that they call home. The same is true throughout the system, though the enviroment in space is rarely as unique as that on the ground.

In the face of an invasion, GA Military commanders will often defer to their local counterparts in preparing for the defence of a system. The GACDF also has a representative in the Gigerdi Alliance Military Joint Chiefs Of Staff, who coordinates the cooperation between the GA Strategic command and the higher echelons of the regular military and the colonial forces.
