Colonyship

Jump to navigationJump to searchA colonyship is a vessel designed to move large populations and colonization equipment to new worlds, establishing new outposts of civilization.
Historically, colonyships can be sleeper ships, designed only to hold the colonists for the duration of the journey, or active space habitats which can support a whole colony inside the vessel itself.
On the other hand, due to improved stardrive ranges and speeds, most modern colonyships are simple modified transports fitted with population quarters and colonization equipment, often in the form of large nanoreplicator/recyclers that transform the ship itself into base materials for the new colony.
