Hull

A hull is the basic body, shell and framework of a starship or craft. The structure of the hull varies depending on the vessel type.

General features

The shape of the hull is entirely dependent upon the needs of the design. Shapes range from a nearly perfect box to a needle-sharp surface of revolution in the case of a racing multihull craft. The shape is chosen to strike a balance between cost, accommodation, load carrying, speed, power requirements, and motion and behavior as well as special considerations for the ship's role, such as the flat bottom of a landing craft.

A hull that has a heavier mass will have a better resistance to beam and torpedo damage, as well as to deep space mines.

Ship sections

A ship's hull is generally composed of roughly three sections, the Armor section, the Outer Hull, and the Inner Hull. If a ship is carrying shield generators, there will also be a protective shield surrounding the ship.
