Inter-Galactic Void

The Inter-Galactic Void is a common name for the vast stretches of empty space that exist between the galaxies. They are the barren, lifeless wastelands of space where almost nothing exists; the great gulfs that separate galactic island universes from each other. Only the occasional rogue globular cluster or tidal stream will welcome a traveler here.

It is practically impossible to cross these zones through conventional means, for they are so large traveling them even with the fastest FTL propulsion systems would take lifetimes. However, several alternate routes around them have been discovered, generally referred to as Intergalactic Gateways (IGG).

Even larger voids exist between galactic superclusters. They are simply referred to as Supervoids or simply Voids and are nearly incomprehensible in their dark emptiness. These desolate regions of the universe will remain forever unexplored.
