Local Group
From Peace Station Encyclopedia
Jump to navigationJump to searchA galactic cluster in which both our own Milky Way Galaxy and our neighbour the Andromeda Galaxy belong to, the Local Group has three major galaxies and a host of smaller ones. Each major galaxy within the Group has a gravitational system of its own; these are known as the Milky Way System, Andromeda System, and the Triangulum System.
Beyond these major galaxies, the group mostly contains dwarf ellipticals, and by average cosmological standards is considered a poor cluster.
