A barred spiral galaxy, NGC 3190 is part of the Hickson Compact Group 44. Lurking at its heart is an active galactic nucleus (AGN), home to a super-massive black hole. The galaxy was the site of two Type Ia supernovae in recent history. The gravitational interaction with nearby NGC 3187 may be the root cause.
