A galaxy within the Virgo Cluster, NGC 4254 is a peculiar sight. Gas is being siphoned away from the galaxy into a tenuous stream and one of its spiral arms is getting torn off, indicating a massive cosmic collision. The other party of the collision, however, is nowhere to be seen.

It appears the galaxy has collided with the invisible dark galaxy VIRGOHI21 within the last 100 million years, causing the unusual shape.
