A standard term in the Collective, a Planet Wide Network (PWN) is defined as the entire internal communications grid of one celestial body, such as a populated planet. Colonized moons and asteroids may also have their own PWNs.

PWNs predate the Collective, as such networks were established by some civilizations even prior to their development of space-faring craft and off-world colonization. Originally consisting of copper wire telephone lines, radio broadcasts, and satellite communications, later PWNs moved into fiber optics, laser transmissions and quantum packages, until finally reaching speeds faster than light itself with tachyonic subspace communications.

In the Collective, PWNs are connected to StellarNET by the local ComNET. Each PWN is assigned at least one Administrator.
