Plasma-based weapons

Plasma can, due to its high conductivity, be used a formidable weapon. A given subject can fire a stream of plasma with a high electric charge, resulting in a powerful energy weapon. However, plasma weapons have a very short effective range, as the plasma stream dissipates quickly.

Plasma weapons come in a wide variety, but they all rely on the same principle: Superheating gas into plasma and simultaneously launching it at the enemy. Heavy plasma cannons are usually single shot weapons which require a time to recharge until they can fire again, but rapid-fire plasma cannons exist as well.

Plasma weapons cause a great deal of damage to the hull of an enemy vessel, and can annihilate a small vessel with a single hit.
