Bright red supergiant star with a sixth magnitude blue companion (Antares B) just three light seconds away. Central component of the Antares system, also known as Alpha Scorpii and Calbalacrab.
Antares is very massive, weighing septillions of tons.
There are prolific amounts of expelled gases around Antares A from its stellar outflow.
