A ring galaxy, the shape of the Cartwheel Galaxy comes from a collision with two nearby galaxies 200 million years ago. Actually, 700 million years ago, because the Cartwheel Galaxy is 500 million light years away from the Milky Way, so what we see of it is already 500 million years old.

The entire galaxy measures 150 000 light years across.
