The Degnoys, better known by its Gigerdian designation "Manta", was one of the first Gorg vessels to be seen during the Gorg War. Even while the ship was more durable than the Detector class, it was still pretty weak. However, unlike the Detector, the Manta became much easier to disable after the weakness in Gorg shields was found, since it had lighter armor plating than the Detector.

The Mantas were used primarily as scout ships, but also engaged enemies in combat situations, mostly serving as fighter destroyers and sometimes even participating in attack runs against small and medium sized capital ships. On some occasions, large groups of Mantas performed hit-and-runs on GF outposts and smaller fleets. During their scout missions, the Mantas were often accompanied by Detectors.

It is very likely that improvements have been made to the original design in current versions of the Manta class corvette, which were observed during the campaign against the Emissaries.
