Epsilon Eridani is the central star of the Epsilon Eridani system, also known as Gliese 144. Located 10.5 light years away from Sol, Eps Eri is somewhat smaller and cooler. Because of this, Epsilon Eridani is a relatively dim star compared to many others in the region. At barely a billion years old, it is also markedly young.
A variety of names and catalog nomenclature have been assigned to this star: 18 Eridani, HR 1084, Gl 144, SAO 130564, BD-09 697, FK5 127, Hip 16537, HD 22049, and LHS 1557.
