Also known as the Gamma Radiation Plague, the Gamma Plague was a local epidemic limited to the Bacterian control world for a month shortly after the formation of the Inter-Stellar alliance.

The Bacterian homeworld of Bacterius had been bombarded with planetary bombs containing components that included Gamma radiation during the Gigerdian-Bacterian war. After the war ended, a considerable sum of Bacterian citizens started to fall ill due to unknown reasons especially in the Bacterian city of Trebia (which had been constructed in a bomb crater).

As the epidemic spread around faster than wildfire, the local scientists managed to isolate the source of the strange sickness; the Inter-Stellar alliance quarantined the planet for a few days while Hemmoian scientists developed a permanent cure in the form of a vaccine for the Gamma plague symptoms. The vaccine worked perfectly on the innoculated population and thus put a stop to the localized epidemic.

By now 99,3 % of the Bacterian population should be immune to the background radiation of the Gamma rays due to effective transfer of genes among the Bacterian population around the Delta and Gamma quadrants.
