A young star system, the HD 15115 system has just recently begun the process of planetary formation and currently consists of a simple protoplanetary disk of dust. Unlike in most star systems, this disk is somewhat unevenly aligned jutting out to one side of the star in an elliptical orbit. It may be due to gravitational interaction with forming planets sweeping up material, or maybe the system had an encounter with a nearby star that yanked the debris disk out on one side.
