Ownership: UCP
System: HD 189733 system
Type: Hot gas giant
Location: Alpha Quadrant

Orbit

Orbital period: 2.219 days
Orbit distance: 4.5 million km

The planet is tidally locked to its star, so that one side always faces the star and the other side is always dark.

Conditions

The temperature of the planet's cloud tops have a temperature of several hundred degrees C, while the "surface" is a scorching 844 degrees C, far too high for liquid water to exist. Even in the atmosphere the water vapour in the planet's atmosphere can't condense, rain or form clouds. Powerful blasts of x-ray radiation cause huge amounts of evaporation of gas from the planet's atmosphere.

Despite the tidal lock with the parent star, heat is distributed evenly in HD 189733 b's atmosphere due to supersonic winds.
