Hemmo Academy
A respected seat of learning in Orceronian culture, the first Hemmo Academy building was erected during the First Age on the Orcish continent of Orceron by the Hemmoian Unity. Its goal was to introduce Hemmoian education methods into the Orcish societies which at the time had wildly varying levels of learnedness, ranging from post-atomic spacefaring nations to primitive tribes. Another purpose the institution served was to unite the various scientific communities from all the nations on Orceron under a single independent body for cooperation on research projects and sharing of scientific knowledge.
Early Times
The construction of the original facility was funded by all members of the Orcish Community, primarily the Hemmoian Unity. Its location was chosen to be on the outskirts of the Capital City, location of the Coalition of Clans headquarters and one of the largest cities on Orceron.
After a difficult start, the Hemmo Academy project was highly successful. Much like the Peace Station millennia later, the Academy served as a common ground for international understanding and cooperation. In fact, historians today consider its establishment as one of the factors leading to the eventual unificiation of Orceron into the single alliance of cultures known as the United Orcs.
As students arrived from all over the world, the complex quickly grew in size. Several new buildings were constructed and a separate dormitory complex of Orcish design was built, which made the site resemble a small self-contained town of its own. It quickly evolved a distinct culture, with Hemmoians and Orcs working side by side.
New Beginning on Aldaain
With the destruction of the entire planet of Orceron in the Great Cataclysm, the infrastructure of the United Orcs needed to be rebuilt from scratch. Initial progress on the construction of the first settlement on Aldaain, later known as Aldaain Centrum, was slow due to the harsh conditions prevalent on the planet; because of this, some time came to pass before a new Hemmo Academy building was considered. Finally when the city was firmly established around the Hemmoian year 1,3918 and the refugees from Orceron were steadily pouring in, UO officials greenlighted the reconstruction of a new Hemmo Academy as a symbol of the rebirth of Orceronian civilization. The building was finished in a single year in 1,3921, and the beginning of the Second Age was declared during the grand opening ceremony.
