Hickson Compact Group 44
From Peace Station Encyclopedia
Jump to navigationJump to searchA compact group of galaxies 60 million light years from the Milky Way Galaxy.
The isolated gravitational system includes galaxies NGC 3193, NGC 3190 and NGC 3187 at center, and NGC 3185. A closer look reveals two tiny galaxies PGC 2806871 and PGC 86788.
The group is an interesting collection of galaxy types – from barred spiral to elliptical in structure, close enough to share material as they gravitationally interact.
The three principle players in this galactic act are sometimes called the “Leo Trio” by UCP astronomers.
