Interdimensional passages are charted routes through the fractal chaos of the Portal Dimension, also known as the "Underspace". They are vital to travel throughout this strange parallel dimension; travellels deviating from charted routes risk getting immediately and irreversibly lost in dimensional space.
Starships capable of charting and maintaining these lanes were known as dimensional lanebuilders.
The UO Royal Space Administration was tasked with overseeing lanebuilding operations and maintaining a map record of all known established spaceways in Underspace.
