Jump to navigationJump to searchA mutation is an abrupt inherited change of phenotype.
Natural mutations are caused by random change (usually damage) in an organism's genetic sequence.
Artificial mutations are an important element of genetic engineering and involve the deliberate alteration of the genetic material in order to achieve a desired phenotype. Types of biologicalmutations include point mutations, deletions, insertions, and changes in number and structure of chromosomes (or equivalents).
