Navigator

Aboard a starship, the navigator (also known as an astrogator) is head of the navigation department. The officer is responsible under the CO for the safe navigation and piloting of the ship. The navigator will normally be senior to all watch and division officers.

In some ships XO is the navigator; in such cases the assistant navigator is generally a division officer reporting administratively to the department heads.
