Protein
From Peace Station Encyclopedia
Jump to navigationJump to searchLarge organic molecule composed of one or more chains of amino acids, as determined by the base sequence of nucleotides in the gene coding for the protein.
Proteins are required for the structure, function, and regulation of the cells, tissues, and organs of carbon-based life. Each protein has unique functions (e.g. hormones, enzymes, and antibodies). Protein engineering and protein splicing are essential elements of biotechnology, genetic engineering and bionanotech.
