Robots
A robot is a mechanical device that can perform preprogrammed physical tasks. A robot may act under the direct control of its master or autonomously under the control of a pre-programmed computer. Movement may be provided by legs, wheels, treads, hoverjets, or something similar and appropriate or the medium the robot most likely travels through or on.
Robots may be used to perform tasks that are too dangerous or difficult for it's master to implement directly or may be used to automate repetitive tasks that can be performed more cheaply by a robot than by the employment of a living creature. Robots can be used for maintenance, security - just about anything.
Typically, a robot is preprogrammed for each task it can do; its skills represent this programming. Most robots can only attempt action they have skills for. Any action that requires a skill the mechanical construct does not have cannot be done.
Some advanced robots can adapt to circumstances and make limited decisions not necessarily dealt with by their programming.
