Rum is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from sugarcane byproducts, such as molasses, or directly from sugarcane juice, by a process of fermentation and distillation. The distillate, a clear liquid, is then usually aged in barrels.

Due to the ease of manufacturing rum with replicators, daily rum rations are popular aboard many starships, especially among space pirates.

Rum can also be used in baking, such as with the traditional Orcish pastry, CTumrhtrrmtpyyi - or in cocktails, such as the Gigerdian Ivor Prime Ice Tea.
