Jump to navigationJump to searchA white dwarf, SDSS1228+1040 is the central component of the SDSS1228+1040 system. The star was once a main sequence star, but this phase of its life ended about 100 million years ago.
A ring surrounds the star, with large quantities of iron, magnesium and calcium, extending out about 800,000 kilometers.
