Species

In biological classification, a taxonomic ranking between genus or subgenus and subspecies.

It comprises related organisms or populations that are reproductively distinct and cannot produce fertile offspring by natural reproduction. The concept of a species is difficult to apply to prokaryotes (which reproduce asexually).
