Spica system
From Peace Station Encyclopedia
Jump to navigationJump to searchThe Spica system consists of two very hot bluish (nearly blue-violet) stars in a close 4 day orbit, each tidally distorted. Their colliding stellar winds emit substantial x-rays. Due to the relatively young age of the system, the two stars' rotation rates are not synchronized. The more massive and hotter member is evolving off the main sequence as a blue giant, while the smaller component is still on the main sequence.
