The light independently targetting variants are capable of frying incoming enemy projectiles and small fighters, while the Heavy Starfish Cannon can be used as an anti-capital ship weapon.
The cannons use electromagnetic fields to accelerate and direct charged particles along a predetermined path, and electrostatic "lenses" to focus these streams for collisions.
