Sunspots

Sunspots are enormous magnetic storms that appear on the surface of a star as dark areas, usually grouped. Though they appear black or very dark, they do emit light, and are not so black: the temperature is about 4 000 K, whereas the surrounding surface has a temperature of 5 800 K. It is the contrast that makes them appear black.
