Talk:Lightness War
the article says the Lightness did not know the structure of the Milky Way when attacking, but this can't be right - according to Mad Gigerdi 2, the Lightness _originated_ from the milky way galaxy (on Gigerdi Prime no less, wasn't it?) ... shouldn't they know their own neighborhood? plus the whole attack was performed according to some bizarre prophetic millennia old Shadow-esque plan, so you'd think they knew exactly what they were doing. - Shok 43 19:41, 1 Oct 2006 (EEST)
Hmm.. Yeah, I hadn't thought of that. But, there's just this one little problem with this "they knew their way around in the Milky Way" - thing.
You see, there's this little piece of history where a small scout fleet of the Lightness found its' way into Gigerdi Prime and a small battle in the system ensued. And, I use term "found", because that's the way it went before MG had a chance to come up with all these explanations. The Lightness didn't know their way around Milky Way, and that's one of the reasons why they couldn't hit Aldaain/Gigerdi Prime/Bacterius etc. head on. Although, currently MG has even decided, that G-Prime was their original homeworld before moving to Andromeda.
It would be hard to say, that they just couldn't get past the GA defences with their much more superior technology, and hit G-prime head on.
So, you know, I'm at a loss here..

This can be explained pretty easily - If the whole Lightness campaign was some sort of weird "test" as I think Mad Gigerdi 2 maintains, the reason they didn't hit the homeworlds is pretty obvious. They weren't going for the big kill on purpose.
The story-telling quality of this is debatable, but that's how the canon goes to my understanding.

I think that we're going to have a problem with this.
First of all, the whole "small Lightness scout fleet suddenly ends up in Gigerdi Prime" - thing was even roleplayed back in those days. I'd consider it canon, but that's of course debatable.
Secondly, this whole Lightness War is a bit of a mess. It could even be a bigger of a mess to sort out than the earlier big messes we've had with the maps , since we've got stuff that's been semi-canonized before MG had a say in things.
My question is, are we going to keep this whole GL vs. GA battle, or is it going to scrapped ?
Btw,
I'd like some sort of material on the Hemmoian way of things during the Lightness War too.
- Dalleer
I don't see why the GA vs. GL thing couldn't have happened; even if the Lightness was just faking it, they could've sent the fleet there on purpose, just _giving the impression_ they got there "by accident".
I dunno, the article could say something to the effect of "According to some sources, the Lightness Campaign was executed according to a preset plan prepared well in advance of the actual attacks. However, this is hotly debated by galactic historians, who point to ..." blah blah. "It may be the attack on Gigerdi Prime was just a part of this larger plan ..."
also here's some HCNF articles from way back then, in chronological order:
- http://koti.mbnet.fi/teenik/hcnf/archive/page21.html
- http://koti.mbnet.fi/teenik/hcnf/archive/page20.html
HCNF is, of course, no longer 100% canon as things have been rewritten since, but it gives some pointers. (mind the atrociously bad english and silly patriotism)
An interesting observation is that according to this, HFed joined the ISA some time _during_ the Lightness War, but I think this can be safely ignored.

PS. the description of the Lightness as "an energy field" is also wonderful in how it does not jive with current knowledge at all.
Alright, thanks for the HCNF stuff.
And, I'll "tweak" the article to give multiple points of views for the whole war, then. That will probably make it fit to the offical canon.. and.. MY way of looking at it.

Oh yeah, you should also look at this: Chronology#Lightness_War

The entire Lightness war is kinda subject to change. My plans for it changed during the whole war so all that needs to be put in order, but I won't be thinking about it till the whole PS time is put in order.
