Texian Defense Forces
The Texian Defense Forces are the primary, and currently the only state-affiliated military organization of the Texian Hive.
Structure
The Defense Forces are an organization administered and funded in co-operation by all of the clans of the Hive. All of the Texian clans are required to divert a certain amount of resources for the budget of the defense forces, and therefore they must also send a certain amount of their members to act as personnel for the military force. Usually a high-ranking member of a certain clan holds a flag rank in the defense forces, and in times of war or during defensive actions, he or she acts as a fleet or ground force commander. The high commander of the entire defence force is the Texian Queen herself, but quite often she only remains in an advisary role and directs her actions through several high-ranking Subcommanders in the royal court, that coordinate larger fleet and ground actions.
The exact troop strenght of the Texian Defence Forces is not currently known. It is believed to be around 10-20 million, since the Texian government has not traditionally cared too much over defence, almost always placing trade and Merchantry as their first and foremost foreign and domestic agendas to be upheld. Especially in the modern era, the Texian Hive has relied in the Gigerdi Alliance for defense, since the Texian state has been annexed as a member state of the alliance, and therefore the Texian government expects it to be defended by the larger organization that it is a part of.
Also, the position of a Texian clan in the hierarchy of the Texian society greatly influences the clan's position in the defense efforts. Some lower-ranking clans are required to register over 70% of their members as conscripts to be used in service, whereas the clans closest to the royal court often include members holding several very prestigious flag ranks in the armed forces.
Texian Defense Force Fleet
The military-part of the Texian fleet has solely been created for the defense of trade routes, border patrolling and protection of larger merchant convoys. The Texians have not really designed their military as an offensive weapon, and luckily to this day, they have not attacked any of their neighbours or had to resort to offensive actions.
