The Apex

The Apex was a vast ancient artifact discovered orbiting the sun of Ta'mag in the Triangle of Ret on the Outer Rim of the Galaxy. The derelict is made of an exotic, seemingly impossible material and its functions are mostly shrouded in mystery.

The object could be considered a baseship by itself. Others have theorized that it is simply a piece of larger stellar scale megastructure.

History

Origin

The origin of the artifact is unknown. A connection to the ancient V'sma civilization has been theorized.

It has also been postulated the artifact is a part of a larger mechanism based upon a dark matter superstructure.

Discovery

The Apex was first discovered as a lensing anomaly in a starfield photograph taken by an automated observation drone in another star system. Upon analysis of the image, the artifact was discovered in the Ta'mag system. The Hemmoian Intelligence Committee subsequently sent a large science fleet to study the object.

Research project

Once the true nature of the object was realized, the Ta'mag system was declared a restricted system and a top secret science colony was soon established on Ta'mag I. It eventually grew into a planet spanning research facility with government funding.

Activation

Eventually the research teams were successful in partially activating the systems of The Apex, including a maneuvering/starflight mode.

Acting like a virtually indestructible starship, the military implications of the activated Apex were soon recognized. The vessel became the base of operations for the IHSF Command Collective, the highest decisionmaking organ of the Independent Hypersentience Starfleet. Linked with the starship's central computers and sharing all aspects of their mental powers with each other, the collective could direct millions of starship engagements simultaneously.

Technology based on the Apex

Reverse engineering the mechanisms of the Apex gave the Hypersentience Federation several revolutionary new technologies in the field of energy manipulation and materials science.
