W Ursæ Majoris system

Jump to navigationJump to searchThe W Ursæ Majoris system is a contact binary. The two binary stars are so close to one another that they share the same outer atmosphere. Such a system is not stable indefinitely, and the two stars will likely merge to form one larger and rapidly rotating star.
