Escherichia Bacterionema
The mother of Pavonidas Bacterionema and the lover of Sërmo, an Orc from the clan Berserk, it was Escherichia Bacterionema's inter-species love affair that indirectly resulted in the First Bacterian War.
As the previous Emperor of the Bacterian Empire, Gracilibacillus the Eleventh, passed away and left the Empire leaderless, her son was eventually deemed to be the next heir to the throne by the Court of Bacterium, despite being a half-breed and of a very young age. It was later revealed the secret society known as the Order of the Eternal Eclipse was behind this attempt at usurping power in the Empire.
Bacterionema herself was against her son being named the next Emperor, believing he was much too young and harbored a destructive hatred of both the United Orcs and the elements demanding racial purity in the Bacterian Empire. After Escherichia made her beliefs clear in front of the Court of Bacterium, the relations between the two deteriorated. Pavonidas held her mother responsible for all the hardships he had experienced due to his half-breed status.
Role in the First Bacterian War
The fears of Escherichia Bacterionema were realized when Pavonidas assumed control of the Empire, using the position to unleash his hatred for the Orcish kind. Pavonidas took his revenge by declaring the brutally bloody First Bacterian-Orceronian War, a war in which billions were slaughtered and which almost resulted in the extinction of the Orc and Hemmoian species.
Escherichia Bacterionema also had a key role in ending the War, although this was never revealed to the general public. Using her ties to the Bacterian religious caste, the priestesses of the Temple of Bacterion, she managed to organize a counter-coup in the Empire that eventually dethroned Pavonidas. News of this event reached the Bacterian strike fleet during the pivotal moment of the HemmoCruiser Incident, ending the conflict just as the Bacterians were ready to ensure their final victory.
Instead of delivering the final blow, the Bacterians suddenly declared an unconditional cease fire and general retreat in the threeway negotiations between the Bacterian Empire, the United Orcs and the Gigerdi Federation, without giving any specific reason. Although the HemmoCruiser III was destroyed, its cryopods remained intact, saving the lives of millions of beings onboard the giant vessel.
Many at the time believed it was because the Bacterians did not wish to open another front in the war with the Gigerdians, and the mechanisms at play within the Empire were never revealed.
