Age: < 1 billion years

Large main sequence star, Altair is colored bright white. It rotates very rapidly, completeing a rotation every 6.5 hours. Due to the rapid spin, it is strongly oblate on its poles.

The star is also known as Gliese 768 and Alpha Aquilae.

Altair is one of the stars in the Summer Triangle. The other two are Vega and Deneb.
