A yellow-white type A star, central component of the Vega system, also known as Alpha Lyrae. Vega is a peculiar looking star with a rotation period of only 12.5 standard hours; the intense centrifugal force is almost tearing the sun apart, its gravity just barely strong enough to keep it from disintegrating altogether. The constant stress has turned the star into a flat, ellipsoid shape with a pronounced equatorial bulge, 2300 degrees K cooler than the sun's polar regions.
Vega is surrounded by a dust disk which probably contains a small gas giant world. This disk have formed due to a collision of two planets. Unfortunately due to its size the life span of Vega is too short for the evolution of intelligent life.
Vega is also part of the Summer Triangle, composed of Vega, Altair and Deneb.
