Astrogation

Astrogation, also known as navigation, is the specialty that covers plotting a course through interstellar space. This differs from Flight Control, which involves steering the ship, taking evasive action, and so forth, although flight control officers can use automated systems in the conn (or helm to plot a course if need be.

The officer responsible for astrogation is referred to as the astrogator (or navigator).
