Eta Carinae

Jump to navigationJump to searchEta Carinae is a massive, highly energetic star in the Keyhole Nebula, part of the larger Eta Carinae Nebula. As the prototypical luminous blue variable, it is extensively studied due to its variability and surrounding dust. The star rotates at a very high velocity and is expected to explode in a dramatic supernova within the next thousand years.
