Femtosatellites
From Peace Station Encyclopedia
Jump to navigationJump to searchA type of artificial satellite weighing less than 100 grams. In order to accomplish this incredibly small size, the satellite's sub-systems are based on advanced nanotechnology - sometimes reducing the entire satellite into one single chip. Femtosatellites are very hard to detect especially from the ground, so they are often used for surveillance purposes. Other applications include remote inspection, distributed measurement and disposable sensors.
