Gravitationally bound

Objects held in orbit about each other by their gravitational attraction. For example, satellites in orbit around a planet are gravitationally bound to the planet since they can't escape its gravity. By contrast, starships are typically launched with enough energy to escape planetary gravity altogether, and hence are not gravitationally bound.
