Primitive Times

The have always lived underwater. They have also been very long-living for hundreds of thousands of years, able to live for hundreds of years, sometimes even over a thousand. The B² lived in wondering packs millennia ago, going from one part of the ocean to the next, depending on the seasons. They lived peacefully with the other B² packs, but had to watch out for predators, large non-intelligent fish-like creatures.

While B² used little of technology, or any type of machinery at all, they did still utilize it even in their pack living days. Especially developing their medical technology. Their long lives also allowed their members to get significantly more intelligent than the average species, their naturally efficient memory also helped. They had little interest in building cities or making any kind of settlements. Some were, however, interested as to what the land above the sea might offer. While the oceans covered most of the planet there were also pieces of land above it.

B² had no interest in developing weapon technology, even to defend themselves. They were pacifists and believed in the natural course of nature. It was natural for them to be hunted and also pretty much a necessity too due to their long lives and relatively high birth rate. While it created a certain atmosphere of fear it was something they had gotten used to, it also prevented many of their members to live to the full extent of their lives, but some nevertheless did.

Technological Advancements

In the end, the started to get more interested in other places. The land above the sea was their first target and to reach it they built their first settlements. Although that was only a couple of the packs' doing, the rest still continued to live on their normal lives. Developing the necessary technology was relatively easy for them, their long lives also helped and the safety of the settlements allowed more of them to survive. This caused other problems, as they were now interfering in the normal course of nature and was especially badly received by the still wondering packs.

It was clear something had to be done about that, to preserve their race as well as keep the ecosystem running normally. All the B² around the world gathered together for the first time to discuss their race's future. While many chose to remain in the old ways, many also wanted change, but so that it wouldn't damage the ecosystem or any of the packs that were still wondering around. It was necessary to start feeding the beasts that preyed them and cloning was considered as the best alternative. The B² started to develop cloning technology to clone mindless versions of them to feed their former enemies. At the same time they also developed technology necessary to reach the land, and some were already setting their sights on space.

Centuries passed as their technology rapidly developed, which started to bring another problem: overpopulation. Their long lives combined with significantly lesser fatality rate, as well as better birth-rate, started to increase their numbers too much. It was clear that birth restrictions had to be put in place and new territories were needed for them. Too many of them would start to hurt the ecosystem so they needed other places where to expand in order to lessen their impact.

It was also at this point when the B² Commonwealth was founded, while it unified only the B² that had chosen to reach for the stars and expand. Those who chose to remain in the old ways still maintained close relations to the commonwealth.

Space Exploration

Being an aqua-based species made their space flights rather tricky, but finally they were able to succeed in it. Already from their early days of colonization they attempted to habit worlds so that their presence would not harm its possible present ecosystem. Lack of water on many worlds made colonization attempts difficult, but fortunately a technological solution was discovered soon and the colonization rapidly increased. didn't use any kind of sleeper ships at any point, they considered them too risky.

Colonization of the nearest solar systems was slower than with many other species, but in the later years the B² were developing technology very fast and it didn't take many decades for them to achieve faster than light-drives. Their technological development has been one of the fastest, if not the fastest, in the Milky Way galaxy.

The B²s expanded rapidly, while still preserving the worlds they landed upon. The lack of any new alien contacts puzzled them if they were truly alone in the universe.

Some B²s were concerned about the expansion and possible new races they might find as these new species might be hostile. Due to their pacifist nature the B²s possessed little to no weapons, while they did have advanced defenses. A hostile race could potentially eliminate them due to their low weaponry. They weren't willing on developing better weaponry, but rather wanted to halt the expansion or at least slow it down. Majority were, however, fascinated with space and potential wonders they could find, regardless of consequences, and so the expansion continued.

For decades the B²s expanded and explored finding nothing. It both comforted and disturbed them. Comforted as they had found no hostile species, but disturbed as some hostile species might have eliminated all other presence in the region while no proof of that was found either. Others believed that the B²s truly were alone in the galaxy, perhaps even in the entire universe. This belief would soon change, however.

First Contacts

Finally, decades later, they stumbled on to their first alien contact, which was the Humans. Through them they established contact to numerous different species. They realized that they were far from alone.

The had expanded to much further than any of the others and had significantly bigger territory than any of the other species. They had significantly smaller offensive capabilities though; while having advanced weaponry, all their ships were very lightly armed if armed at all. Fortunately for them, the neighboring races weren't hostile ones. As Opiros and V'As'Ta'Rs were much further away.

B²s were interested in trade and generally forming treaties with all the races. They formed treaties with all the races except Opiros and V'As'Ta'Rs. Everything seemed to be going much better than they had anticipated.

United Commonwealth of Planets

Soon a conflict broke out between the V'As'Ta'Rs and Opiros. The B²s tried to get the species to negotiate, but were unsuccessful. However, when Lihters and 1110110110101111 presented them with information that the conflict was instigated by some 3rd party the B²s were more than willing to help to expose it.

They located a cloak-capable ship behind the attacks. While the B²s never fired a shot at it they helped the other races to locate it, bringing an end to the conflict. Q<RE-Ô then suggested an alliance between all the races, but it was viewed rather badly by the B²s. While they sought for peace they saw little potential in any kind of a military alliance and that it would more than likely lead to war. Lihters later on managed to convince the B²s into accepting the idea and assured that it would work.

After the success of the military alliance, some B² idealists suggested a more concrete alliance, a full union of species: United Commonwealth of Planets. It was viewed very positively by all the races and soon lead to the Commonwealth's formation.
