Formerly an ordinary Aanek class medium cruiser, the IHSF starship Koskelo (S2) was one of the last Aanek class vessels built. It has later been heavily upgraded and turned into the personal flagship of IHSF Supreme Fleet Commander Hemmo 240 Heiluja.

History

During the Lightness War, the Koskelo was forced to take part in the deadly Last Stand of Cipharg Twelve. It was during this engagement Hemmo Heiluja assumed command of the vessel upon the death of the commanding officer.

Later, Heiluja was reassigned into the IHSF Command Collective, eventually reaching the rank of Supreme Fleet Commander. Instead of staying behind the fleets he commanded, Heiluja preferred a hands-on approach to space combat, insisting on a small command vessel of his own. The Koskelo, already showing its age, was about to be decommissioned and recycled when Heiluja proposed the idea of an Aanek Refit class to fit his specifications.

Refits

The refit was performed on the vessel and the new design became known as the Aanek R class heavy strike cruiser. The aging systems had been upgraded to match or even outperform those of an Aikon Mk.IIIb class heavy cruiser. Noticing the potential of this new upgrade, the IHSF High Command ordered many old Aanek class cruisers to be refitted to meet the new standard.

The Koskelo was later upgraded further to meet the personal preferences of Heiluja. It is currently the only "Aanek R4 class" vessel, in essence a custom design.
