Linguistics

Linguistics is the study of language. There are numerous sub-fields, including syntax, semantics, comparative linguistics, deep structures, metagrammar, phonology, artificial, digitial and computerized languages, xenolinguistics, and so on.

A person trained in the science of linguistics is called a linguist or a philologist.
