Jump to navigationJump to searchAboard a military starship, the operations officer is responsible for the collection, evaluation, and dissemination of combat and operational information required by the mission of the ship. This covers the areas of subluminal and FTL search; control of auxiliary vessels (shuttlecraft, fightercraft, drones and probes; collection, display, analysis and dissemination of intelligence; preparations of operating plans and schedules; space terrain information; and repair of electronic equipment.
The following officers, if assigned, may report to the operations officer:
- Administrative and training assistant
- Carrier traffic control officer
- Combat information center (CIC) officer
- Communications officer (when not a department head)
- Computer programmer
- Cryptologic officer
- Electronic-warfare (EW) officer
- Electronics material officer (except when the ship has a combat systems department)
- First lieutenant
- Intelligence officer
- Science officer (when not a department head)
- Sensor officer
- Space weather officer
- Strike operations officer
