Proton
From Peace Station Encyclopedia
Jump to navigationJump to searchThe second part of most atomic nuclei and one of the three main components of an atom. It is positively electrically charged with a charge equal and opposite that of the electron. The other part is a neutron, which is neutral in charge and has a mass similar to the proton (1.007276 daltons, or 1.6726 = 10-27 kg).
The proton is known to consist of point-like particles called quarks, bound together by gluons.
