Talk:HemmoCruiser Incident
Gigerdian uniforms etc.
So here's a preview screenshot of the historical first time the Hemmoians/Orcs/Ollapukkitians and the Gigerdians meet face to face, aboard the Gigerdian Tau class destroyer GFS Lorrum after the HemmoCruiser is evacuated. This is a cargo bay with two different atmospheres, separated by a force field.
Can you give me any pointers on how the Gigerdians of this era should look? Fleet / Marine uniforms, etc.
This picture shows several uniforms as they currently look in-game:
- Green w/helmet: Gigerdian marines w/ combat armor (modeled after U.S. soldiers)
- Dark grey w/cap: Gigerdian marine warrant officers (modeled after U.S. soldiers)
- Light grey w/cap: Gigerdian fleet officer
- Light blue w/cap: Gigerdian fleet rank-and-file
- Light grey/dark grey w/ helmet: Gigerdian marines w/ space combat armor
- Brown suit: Gigerdian military higher-up (general?)
The fleet officer sprites still show a human face at this point, haven't photoshopped them yet. But before I do, I'm wondering if there should be something about their uniforms that needs changing, or are these OK?
On a related note, are there other species serving on the Gigerdian vessels that meet the HemmoCruiser? (Humans, etc.?)
Can't say really on how the uniforms should look like since I do not have the artistic talent to do any sketching, though I don't think it's really of an issue how they look like, especially in the game as it has so low resolution. The current ones are all more than fine on my account except that I don't like the hats. Hats on space ships don't really fit.
As far as aliens go I think it's highly possible that there are humans aboard those ships, even some other UCP races are possible, but these would probably require far too much work to be included. You can use humans at your discretion.
Also the Gigerdians below look very good and I have no objections against any of them or their outfits.

Also
Here are the key Gigerdian players in the incident, with some attempts at fleshing out a Fleet uniform:
Cpt. Nooper Doniurs
Cpt. Jhouni Erip
Cpt. Clownen Markkanen
The one with Doniurs is the most detailed, it's based on the Earth Alliance uniform.
So, I'm trying to work out the specifics of the HemmoCruiser Incident. Now I'd need some input from the Gigerdian side of things.
What were the names and classes of the Gigerdian starships involved in the Incident? There was at least one capital ship, some sort of heavy carrier (judging from the fact it was capable of launching squadrons of fighters), although there might have been an entire fleet.
Further, a conflict developed between two factions in this Gigerdian force; the others regarded the HemmoCruiser as a threat to be neutralized, the others wanted to help after finally being able to work out the Hemmoian language with the aid of Arnasuk Baasegnar. I'd need to know, 1. where did this schism develop? Was it between the bridge crew of a starship, or was it two starship captains with differing views? What were their names and ranks?
Well, this whole incident is really problematic. There are a lot of things that can be difficult to solve, first of all the HemmoCruiser is absolutely massive, it must've taken a decade, if not longer, to build it. Second the Bacterian fleet size has to be taken into account as the Gigerdians need to either destroy them or scare/drive them away. Also, shouldn't the cruiser has some kind of escort ships? I mean, this ship is their final hope, it must've been guarded heavily when it was built and thus there should've been several available escort ships around. And is it wise to build one massive ship? Why not several larger ones? If it's lost then everything would be lost. With several ships the loss of a few wouldn't be so big.
As for the helping out/kicking their asses part it's in a way possible to explain. As the ship is massive and has clearly some type of weaponry it is safe to assume that the ship is a threat to GF security, however, the problem is that the Gigerdian fleet would have to massive in order to have any hopes of actually destroying this massive ship so the attack would most likely be futile. The other ships might have taken special notice on the high amount of population on-board so they might believe it to be a population transport. Though considering that the GF was aware of the presence of the ship beforehand (and its size), I think they must've had some kind of orders in place in case the ship is this kind or that kind or something else. After all, this was a first contact situation so there must be some special rules in place and GF has had plenty of first contacts before the UO so they weren't new to them.
At the moment I think the ship classes, names and commanding officers are really the least of our problems and those can be made up in five minutes once the rest of the problems have been dealt with. There are probably other issues that need to solved that weren't put here. Personally I think we should think this through during out next meeting. There are just too many issues that would need to be solved and a meeting would be the most effective way to deal with them.

The size of the ship is subject to change. In any case it has to be large enough to house hundreds of thousands, if not millions of stasis pods. The escorts were recycled into the new ship, as the article states, and the entire mining colony was converted into a vast shipyard facility. The fact that there was a singular ship designed to carry its passengers away from the Galaxy proper is not subject to change, it is what happened. I am currently writing the story down from the UO perspective. I would appreciate it if you took the five minutes and came up with the names, unless you want me to make them up.
Well the number of ships is still unknown, but there could be like four (or less) "lead" ships that could have names GFS Klokner, GFS Geeroi Nemel, GFS Lorrum and GFS Cleaner. These could be commanded (ranks are still unknown, presumed captains, but there could be one admiral as well) by Nooper Doniurs (female), Ollekkoirpellu Giigerd (male), Jhouni Erip (female) and Clownen Markkanen (male) respectively. As far as classes are concerned there could be Gigerdi Mk.II classes, Ogaitinshas, Commanders, Taus and classes that have not yet been added to the ship guide, but these are also subject to change.

I've been thinking about the HemmoCruiser and the war in general a bit. First something about the size of the ship. 700 km is really an overkill if you want to fit in only about 20-30k people. If, for example, the ship would have only one deck, be 700 km long and 1 km wide it would probably have at least 650 km2 of living space. Now that would be about 46-47 Hemmos in one square kilometer, which is, obviously, very little. So I recommend shrinking the ship significantly. 20x5x5 km ship would already have significant amount of space and would actually be bigger than 700 km ship with one deck so it could be made even smaller. 30 000 people can actually be carried with rather small ship. For some real life reference the Tallink Europa (former Silja Europa) has a length of about 200 m and width of about 33 m, and has 13 decks with passenger capacity of 3 000 and as you probably know it's hardly equipped with optimal passenger capacity. This size shrinking would solve the time problems in building the ship quite well.
As for the war, I assume that the Bacterians were studying Hemmoians, Orcs and whatnot during those 22 years and developing biological weapons against them during this time? Then I assume that the events leading to HC incident go something like this: The UO is losing colonies and they realize that they may not be able to defeat the Bacterian invasion and they decide to attempt to save their species by sending their "best and brightest" to some unknown region of space. While the HC is built the war is waged far away from the colony and still keeps going badly. The HC is rather hastily built and just as it's about to be finished and launched (or maybe it's not fully finished?) the Bacterians just happen to invade the system. The rest of the fleet there sacrifice themselves so that the HC can flee. The UO has set the rendezvous point in GF space (or very near it) and for some reason give away their position to signal it to their other fleets. The Gigerdians (and probably the Bacterians too) pick-up these messages and then notice this large ship approaching and scramble some kind of fleet. The Bacterians are also in the area looking for the HC. The HC comes out of subspace and is soon intercepted by the Gigerdian fleet of unknown size. The commanding officers aboard some of those ships argue on whether or not to fire on the ship (well the Gigerdian way does appear to be shoot first ask questions later though) and so on.
Considering the huge losses of the Hemmoians it is difficult to believe that they would have any better luck against the Bacterians during the war number 2 since so little of time passes between them. However, as previously mentioned, increasing this time period would create problems with the Kyle & Mad story. Problem is that none of these issues were really thought out back then so what we now have is just a huge mess. As I previously said we really need to discuss these things during our next meeting as this is one of most crucial things in the whole PS.
