Gigerdian-Bacterian Friendship Treaty
The Gigerdian-Bacterian Friendship Treaty was an attempt on behalf of the Gigerdi Alliance to better its relations with the Bacterian Empire shortly before the outbreak of the Third Bacterian War.
Initial Stages
The newly-created Gigerdi Alliance, under the flag of a freshly unified Gigerdian race wished to better its' relations with the factions it had fought wars with in the past. One, if not the only state that the Gigerdian politicians were interested of "containing" and bettering relations with, had to be the Bacterians. Despite the hasty albeit successful temporary alliance that the Peace Station Interspecies Treaty had guaranteed during the ending stages of the Timocracy War, many members on both sides still remembered the inconvenient Gigerdian intervention during the Second Bacterian War, not to mention the first.
The Gigerdians had continiously considered the Bacterians as a considerable threat despite best efforts from Kyle Gigerdi's Gigerdi Confederation to better relations before the unification. The Bacterians also seemed to consider the Gigerdians as a threat, but since an all-out war had never been fought between the sides, knowledge of each others' capablities were somewhat lacking.
The Treaty
The Gigerdian ambassadorial staff chose the Council Station located in the Damuta system as a site for the up-coming negotiations and goodwill exercises. Since both sides felt that despite forging a new and friendly relationship, it was required for military officials from both states to also oversee the negotiations. Ambassador Goroth Etar from the Bacterian Empire acted as the leading negotiator, under orders from both the diplomatic and military staff of his state. Admiral Josser Garwin, supported by General Duel Jared and captain Nix Malignt were the Gigerdian delegates.
The negotiations proceeded quite well: the Bacterian delegates were very forthcoming and supportive, although it seemed quite clear, that the Gigerdian delegates on the other hand didn't seem to trust the sudden optimism in the Bacterian delegates.
The signing of the treaty was concluded with a simulated combat exercise between the GAS Repulse, a Gigerdi Mk.3 class heavy cruiser, and a new Bacterian cruiser. The battle ended in the destruction of the Gigerdian vessel, which according to the Gigerdian delegates, perfectly demonstrated the Bacterian attempts on gaining an upper hand in the negotiations altogether.
