Hemmoian chronology
Known by a variety of alternate titles, the Hemmoian chronology is the standard method of counting time in the Delta Quadrant, and is basically the history of Orceronian civilization and its expanse into the Galaxy at large.
Units
The units of the Hemmoian chronology can be broken down to the following:
- Octond - equivalent of a standard second
- Quasiquart - 0,25 quarts. (Equivalent of a standard minute)
- Quart - 80 octonds, or 0,25 epicycles.
- Epicycle - equivalent of a standard hour.
- Date (UST/HFST) - 0,1 cycles, or 0,001 k-dates. (Equivalent of a standard day)
- Cycle - ten dates, or 80 epicycles. (Equivalent of a standard week)
- Rotation - ten cycles. (Equivalent of a standard month)
- Year (K-Date in UST/HFST) - ten rotations, or one thousand cycles.
- Age - arbitrarily defined era ranging from several hundred years to several thousands.
Several modern time specifications, including the universal Union Standard Time and later HFed Standard Time used all around the Hemmoian Federation, are based on this system.
The Three Ages
The chronology is split into three separate time periods of arbitrary length based on significant historical events, referred to as the three Ages.
The First Age spans the history of planet Orceron from the Pre-Orcish Ages all the way to the planet's destruction in the Great Cataclysm and up until the establishment of a colony on Aldaain. It includes such events as the industrialization of the Orceronian nations, foundation of modern governments, the Hemmo Wars, and the establishment of the United Orcs.
The Second Age (842 years) marked the beginning of full-scale colonization efforts by the United Orcs (known as the New Colonization Era) and warfare with the V3 Alliance (the V3 War). Despite disastrous events such as the Great Chaos of Aldaain, the Second Age saw the UO firmly establish itself as a proper space-faring civilization.
The Third Age (180 years and onwards) was announced after contact was established with the Bacterians (UO-BE First Contact) and a friendship treaty was signed, signalling the beginning of an era of truly galactic politics. The Third Age saw such important events as the First Bacterian War, the HemmoCruiser Incident, the Peace Station Project, the Lightness War, and other galactic scale developments. It is the latest of the Ages, expected to last for several hundred years to come.
